Adaptability

Good Sunday everyone. It's a nice quiet morning in my home today. Wife and kids are baking at grandmas house and I'm at home! Beaut! Take advantage and get the Internet stuff done.
In the last nine months my life, life has been crazy. Just like a jumbled up circus. It's been a lot of fun. Lots of fun but seemingly exhausting. Trying to fit so much more in an amount of time that just isn't there. I have never really done any scheduling of my life before. Except for work and some morning movements. But the rest of my time was always left with no reservations. And thus causes me to feel no obligation to do anything. Therefore I would not accomplish as much as I could have. Now with I Ho Chaun looming in the near future ;) I have found that time is a very valuable commodity. A schedule of my day is going to be very much needed. I have a schedule figured out and written down. Bear with me for a thought process. It feels good to have a concrete plan of my day ready to use. What and when I should be doing stuff.
But then yesterday after speaking with a sifu at practice I realized that time can be very flexible. I do not fully understand "mastery". while in conversation of this literature, sifu's words hit a switch. If I have time to wait around, that is time wasted! Wowseers that's deep stuff. I wonder what will happen when I start busting out reps of Da Mu Hsing while I'm "waiting for my bill". That would be good stuff!!  But ,seriously here, sifts words where pretty new thoughts for myself. I took those thoughts home and meditated and pondered.
I have come to very recently understand that it's okay to have a concrete plan to not deviate from in order and in place. But there must be an acceptance of  its not always be like my piece of paper. There is the lesson in adaptability.

This is Will Duncan wishing you and yours a merry Christmas and a fantastic new year.
Bye for now

Building, tearing down and rebuilding

Good morning everyone. So blogging eh? I'm not too sure on what to blog about so...Well ahem...here we go.
This journey that we/I are about to embark on is fantastic. I've always wanted to commit myself to kung fu in this kind of fashion. Martial arts have always been a passion for myself. As a kid I tried numerous martial arts. As much as I enjoyed each martial art I tried, they just did not feel right. As I grew from kid to "adult" I started to wander away from the things I enjoyed as I child   Building walls and barriers to ensure I tried it and failed and thus would not want to try that art form or one like it again. This thought process carried into every aspect of my life. Until finally I had built enough walls and barriers that I no longer needed to try things, I knew already I would not like it.
The fate full day came where all my barriers and walls I had built left me isolated and lonely.  I had learnt while living in a tent in an open field in Saskatchewan, that I would soon be deceased if something didn't change. With nothing more than a mere flicker hope, I found some people who were willing to teach me how to break down and destroy these "walls and barriers of death". With lots of help and love I was able to tear down and dismantle these walls. It took years of tears and hard work to re-build my character, my spirit and my body. This portion of my journey was instrumental in the sense that I was able to build and concrete foundation out if the walls I tore down.
While re-building myself I still felt a hole in my soul. My spirit still lacked something. While in conversation with a friend I was asked the question "why can't you revisit your dreams?" Mind-blown I was. I responded with "well I don't know".  My oldest boy is in kung fu in the onoway school and I asked if he would mind if I attended kung fu with him. I didn't want to impose myself on him and my kung fu training was left in the hands of a 4 year old. Fortunately he was pumped for me to do kung fu with him. Slowly I felt hole disappearing in my spirit. I started to feel rejuvenated again. Just pumped when kung fu night came. The evening could not come fast enough. In the next year I learnt more about myself and kung fu. The more I learnt the more I desired.
And here I stand today ready to continue building on a foundation of old conquered fears and torn down walls. Bring on I ho Chaun. Bring on life's little disasters. I'm gonna smash thru them too. No more fears no more doubts. Time to start placing my faith in my teachers and allow the confidence to come back out.
I hope you all have a fantastic day. Bye for now
